The natural urge to suck

To Cayden, nothing is as heavenly as sucking..

sucking...

sucking...
sucking..and biting...
biting..
biting..

and biting..
Everything that lies in his hands never fail to be drown in his pool of saliva. He shows no mercy to all objects within his reach including books, pillows, remote controls...simply anything. As a result, my parents are extremely careful with the selection of toys thus most of them are for teething purpose. We also ensure small items are never placed near him.

For hygiene purpose, we have tried introducing pacifier but Cayden still has a stronger preference for his sweet little thumb.

There are different school of thoughts. Some experts claim that babies generally suck their thumb to soothe themselves, which is good, because they need to learn how to rely on their own resources without your help. Others say that thumb and pacifier sucking can cause "tongue thrust" speech. We have also heard that this habit could cause forward protruding upper jaws. However, literature seems to say irreversible damage to teeth is most likey to occur at age 5 and beyond.

This is typically how he puts himself to sleep- thumb sucking.

Last but not least, here is another photo of him savoring the enjoyment of biting, with his eyes closed....

"Yummmmmm.... heavenly therapeutic"
We hope he will slowly weane off this little habit as he grows older.

When I grow up...

... I want to be an Astronaut because I want to work in space!

"Haha.. Carys you sure??"
"Yes yes!! I want to work in space!!"

I am not joking. Children of my age have big dreams and ambition!

Previously, I eagerly expressed my interest to be a doctor after learning about Lungs, Breathing and Stethoscope at the clinic. My parents do not know what triggered me to change my mind after a month of enthusiasm. Haha..

Regardless of the path I take, my parents hope I will grow up to be a good citizen making positive contributions to the society.

Anyway, Mummy shared in facebook-
"Carys' ambition is to b an astronaut because she wans to go to space"
and received interesting response (names slightly edited):

Amy hahaha....very ambitious....

Helen We need an astronaut from Singapore! Carys, I support you!

Hoe hee, just make sure she upgrades her ambition every week and not downgrade oh!but amazing leh, so young already have ambition. ^^ Carys is a clever xiao li hai! uncle also support you!

Angie wah first female singaporean astronaut!!!!! ... if it comes true, i need to "chope" time for Carys for an autograph. hee :)

Daphne smart carys! to understand wat is an astronaut at her age! amazing!

Juliana At one time, my girl wanted to be a 'policeman' cos she wanted to carry a gun and 'piang piang'.On another day, she wants to be a zookeeper so that she can bathe/feed the animals. Let's enjoy these moments!

Kei Hahahahahaha!!!!! I like it!!!!! LOL!!

Ying wow... u hv an extraordinary gal hehe....

Stephen That's a long way from home.

"Whatever will be, will be. The future's not ours, to see. Dear Carys, Carys. What will be, will be."

Leaping Forward..

... is a newly acquired skill of Cayden just a few days ago. We believe he would be able to crawl at ease very soon.

A New Playground

After 3 months of construction, our long-awaited new playground is finally opened! Woohoo!!

This was the OLD playground 3 months ago. We kind of miss it.

Before the previous playground got demolished, I recalled having a little "date" with my neighbour Nathanael. We had so much fun.

See his related post FUN at the Playground with Carys

Coming back to our new playground, Mummy captured the process of construction during our long wait.
And here are a few photos of me at play.

(yes, a photo taken after I teared as Mummy did not allow me to utilize this steep spiral slide at first)
Even though its brand new and nice, some of our neighbours feedback that they still prefer the old one. I share the same sentiment as I miss the see-saw, tic-tac-toe as well as the rocking horses the old playground had to offer. Well, I guess we just have to make do with what we have now.

Home Barber

There seem to be frequent postings pertaining to hairstyles and grooming recently but please do not be mistaken, our intention is never to build a blog focusing on hairdo. Haha.. Well anyway, Daddy purchased this grooming kit at the Philips Carnival Sale last weekend specially to groom little Cayden's hair.

BEFORE

CUTTING IN PROCESS

AFTER

Daddy's skill is not bad uh?

We are glad to have bought the kit as we recalled Cayden's cries almost woke the whole neighbourhood during his hair-shaving session at the barber. Besides, we get to enjoy the convenience as well as comfort of doing it ourselves at home.

My Fairy Princess Palace

This was a gift from Auntie Veron on my 1st birthday but I was not ready to appreciate until recently.

The paper works of art was created with fine exquisiteness.

The book came with some nice cute paperdolls including king, queen, fairies, princesses, prince and other characters of magical land.

It was designed with great details in mind to the extent of including a restroom for the residents of the palace..haha

It was so delicate that Mummy kept reminding me to play and handle with care.

I started imagining myself in a land of fairytale where these two paper dolls resembled Cayden and I. Haha..

In the process of play, I learned about King, Queen, Princess, Fairies and some other new vocabs. Learning through play is the most enjoyable and rewarding!

p.s Daddy's comment - he cannot understand the fun involved as only girls can appreciate this...hee hee

a-Maze-ing

Besides jigsaw puzzles, Mummy is surprised that I love to challenge simple mazes.

I have started with extremely simple Kumon mazes and then increased the level of difficulty with each page. This is a wonderful and fun activity which help me improve my problem-solving as well as fine-motor skills. I am very addicted to it and have completed 24 mazes for the past 2 days.

Mummy hopes practicing mazes can help me improve my writing skill since I do not show as much interest in letter tracing.

Mummy has to start sourcing for printable mazes online once I completed my Kumon Easy Maze workbook, which could be soon!
